The 1920's era Rangiora Town Hall in Canterbury, NZ was closed in 2012 following the Christchurch Earthquakes. During its closure, work was undergone to provide seismic strengthening and to build an extension. As part of this new refurbishment, the Waimakariri District Council who manage the facility, upgraded the seating in the hall and developed the cinema facility.
The hall features a theatre stage, two cinemas, and an auditorium divided into ground floor and upper balcony levels, with a total of 361 fixed seats.
Alloyfold was pleased to supply the custom seating required in the project. In addition to the 361 Beethoven seats for the main theatre, Alloyfold supplied 60 Mojo cinema seats for the Town Hall Cinemas and 80 Estillo conference venue seats.
Included in the brief was to supply removable seating for wheelchair access. Our team customised the Beethoven seats to include castors on some of the chair frames so chairs could be wheeled away to allow for greater access. We also customised the seat mountings of some of the seating to accommodate the slope on the theatre floor and the curve of the new theatre design.
The Alloyfold team installed the seating and completed the project in time for the venue's official opening in March 2015.
